Google and Twitter… they have “history”

If you think this news is old news, in a way you are right. Years ago, you would have seen real time tweets in Google search results, but for one reason and another, come 2011 – Twitter and Google went their separate ways and real time tweets were no longer coming up in results. Fast forward to 2015, and it seems a new deal has been struck, and Twitter is letting Google access its data stream once more.

Impacts on SEO

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a combination of good practices online that help make your website function well, and make it easier for Google to understand the relevance of your content to an audience using its platform to search for something. By indexing tweets, Google is giving searchers another way to access the information they are searching for quickly and easily. This means that if you are creating content relevant to a target audience, Google will understandably want to show your content in its results. The fact it is real time, makes it clear that you are up to date, on the ball, and connected withwhat matters now in your industry.

How to get your tweets indexed

Now that the tool is there, it is time for businesses to work out how to best use it. You have to understand that Google only wants to display valuable tweets that link to useful content, and in no way what-so-ever do they want to be displaying spam tweets. Here is what the industry thinks the chances of getting indexed will be based on:

  1. Third party websites linking to the tweets
  2. Third party websites linking to the twitter profile
  3. Popularity of a tweet measured by number of retweets
  4. Kudos of a tweet measured by who retweeted
  5. Popularity of a tweet measured by number of favourites
  6. Kudos of a tweet measured by who favourite the tweet

How to make your tweets popular to the right people

This is the social media marketing we specialise in, and because we are all about genuine marketing from the heart, our approach takes the ethical route that wins the attention of the target audience, and now Google too.

  1. Connect with people who will be interested in what you have to say

  3. Remember that people like pictures, include an image for a higher chance of a retweet
  4. Share other people’s content if you think your audience will like it too
  5. Build relationships with people who will amplify your message
  6. Connect with relevant influencers who are likely to be indexed by Google
  7. Invest time in your social media conversation, just like you would with a real person!
